Hello! My name is Krysia Garcia. I was born in the Philippines and moved to Texas when I was 2-years-old. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, I dedicated a year of service to AmeriCorps teaching ESL to adults in the Austin area. This past year, I have been working with students in Austin ISD to provide students with personalized instruction and assistance in College Readiness. This will be my first year teaching, and I’m incredibly excited to get started!
My interests include reading and writing, lounging with my dogs, and traveling and exploring whenever I can. I fancy myself a bit of a foodie and love trying out new restaurants.
I believe that the beauty of language lies not only within books and poetry, but also in the pervasive desire to communicate with one another. In my classroom, I hope to create opportunities for students to use language in order to bridge the distance between each other and share their unique voices in their own communities.
